Senior System Engineer

We’re seeking an experienced Senior System Engineer to design, implement and support enterprise infrastructure across a cloud and on‑premise environment. You’ll ensure core platforms are secure, highly available, aligned to business outcomes, while acting as a key technical authority across infrastructure, operations and engineering teams.

This role is suited to an independent contractor operating within complex enterprise environments, capable of working autonomously while contributing to strategic platform direction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintainenance of enterprise infrastructure across a cloud and on‑prem environment
• Own the stability, performance and availability of core platforms including compute, identity, networking and endpoint services
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex incidents across infrastructure and end-user environments
• Drive automation and standardisation across deployment, configuration and operational processes
• Implement and maintain security best practices across identity, access, patching and hardening
• Support and optimise modern workplace platforms including Microsoft 365, Intune and endpoint management
• Collaborate with architecture teams to deliver scalable and future‑ready solutions
• Participate in change, release and lifecycle management activities
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and runbooks
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team
• Support continuous improvement across reliability, performance, cost and user experience

Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Senior System Engineer within enterprise IT environments
• Strong background across Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, Group Policy
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, identity, networking)
• Solid expertise in Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune / Endpoint Manager)
• Experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + cloud integration)
• Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking and end-user platforms
• Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell essential)
• Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Exposure to security frameworks, endpoint hardening and compliance practices
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)
• Ability to operate independently and manage priorities in fast‑paced environments
